Hi guys - just got my new SP50L7HX and there seems to be something wrong with it.

The picture displays fine, however there is huge amounts of blocking around the dark areas & they look green. The on-screen menu seems ok, but no matter what connections I use, or if its SKY or my DVD player, it shows up. The picture is terrible!!!! agggggghhhhhh (

I would like to try reseting the TV but i cant seem to find anything in the manual on how to do this - and when i press the menu button on the remote the plug-play option does not appear, as the manual suggests.

Really need help here!!!! Is it possible its set on secam or ntsc or something silly & if so how do i change it!

Probably need to try some of the different colour settings. I find my dark areas look nasty in standard mode but in cinema mode they dissapear

Thanks for the idea, but the picture is much worse than color settings - its almost like a 70's pop video, something between a negative image and looking at the picture through night vision!!

    Thx guys, G.

you'd be surprised species makes a huge difference to have the TV properly setup with a AVIA or maybe THX setup program. I had a similar problem with black like in ocean's 12 DVD when catherine zeta jones is leaving brad pitt's room and shes wearing a blackdress and it looked awful but after i switched to cinema and used THX optimizer it was greatly improved.

P.S don't ever try to watch a Divx standard quality film thats in the dark a lot or you will be really unhappy hehe, watched Original Halloween I ripped from DVD to store on HTPC last night and even with ffdshow, theatertek 2.0 it looked decidly rough in the spooky scenes. Looks like I have to purchase the HD Divx encoding pack see if that helps.

I'd recommend using XVID HD instead. IMO, better, and free.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for the responses but I sent a file to Samsung to show the problem, and they have said there is def a fault with it - so its going back today and im getting another one tomorrow.

In case anyone else thinks they have a similar problem i will describe - basically the tv shows the picture ok, but when it trys to show a particular kind of dark green (a good example is when Sky goes to commercial theres a kaki green with sky one written accross the middle) This was showing as as bright bright green - like radar green! Im so technical! You couldnt watch it, Stargate looked liked i'd overdosed on magic mushrooms!

Oh i have some more info regarding the lamp life and replacement costs. I know there have been allot of conflicting reports on this subject. What i can advise is that Samsung support said that the lamp life was 30000 hrs (pretty impressive if true) & the replacement lamp cost would be - get this..... 50 pounds! I've kept the e-mail so that i can complain when they ask me to fork over 250-350!!!!

    Thx again guys, G.
