Hello Everybody, perhaps someone can advise me.

New to the DVD recorder world, ive armed myself with a sony rdr gx 210.

HQ setting gives me 67 minutes of recording. this is a perfect copy of what im watching.

SP setting gives me 120 odd minutes of recording. I can see slight artifacting around countrasting colours and/or text. viewed in widescreen on 36" CRT.
Is this to be expected with all DVD recorders or does it depend on make and software used for compression?

The two settings lower i would never use. not good enough, pixelation & artifacting are high and not up to my viewing standards.

Thanks in advance

I would say so, especially on a 36" screen. You'll notice it on motion too; for example, 'sparkly footballers' on MOTD.

Thanks. Just wanted to be sure i didn't have a dud unit. Tried a couple on 20" Tv, you have to look really hard to see the artifacts.

Great explanation..... "sparkly footballers"
