Soundbar placement

Has anyone ever heard of putting a soundbar above the TV versus below? I am already putting the TV too high up (will be on a special mount that lets me bring it down from the mantel). The extra space needed for the soundbar and the two inch space between is adding up and pushing in its resting position higher and higher.

Please let me know if above is an option?

Not aware of any Soundbar which has the option to 'steer' sound to below the height of the Soundbar so unless you plan to sit on bar stools it's going to be a compromise.

If you stick the Soundbar in Stereo mode and angle it towards the listener that may work.
