Is there a big difference between sound through gold SCART RGB from the freeview box to the audio out on my AVR amp instead of using the digital audio out on the freeview box to coaxil on the AVR amp?

No difference I can detect on my iPlayer. Without knowing which box are you're using there's not much to say, for current broadcasts you'll only get stereo or prologic surround so sterero is good enough and only the actual stereo output quality should matter.
