Sound on ps3 games lacking bass

I have my ps3 connected to my amp with an optical lead the same way that i have my xbox 360 and if i compare the two for bass response when gaming the ps3 seems to be very light and lacking.

Bass seems fine on blu-ray films.

Has anyone else noticed this or maybe i have something not set up right?

I have checked the settings and i am sure everything is right.

Other way round TBH. In fact, I can't believe how incredible the sound is in Motorstorm. The bass is incredible, and 360's sound capabilties are put to shame in comparison.

not sure what amp setup you have but the bass for games on mine is fine like what has been mentioned Motorstorm and resistance pack a punch on the bass side of things and i'm using optical.

Is the music on the title screen on Motorstorm bass heavy because it sounds so tinny at the moment?

Strange comment on the 360 sound as it is sometimes too much bass on my system.

The music on the title screen is ment to be that way it's to emulate that your at a music festival which the game is set in, when you play a game the music doesn't have this effect.

Thanks.

Resistance and the in-game sound on Motorstorm are still light so it seems something is wrong still

When I had a PS3 I had then both plugged through the same amp and speaker system optically and I must admit that the PS3 sound didnt deliver the same bass as the 360. That said though, it was still good and if I didnt have the 360 to compare it too I wouldnt have noticed. I got into the habit of turning the sub up 2 clicks from 5 to 7 when I used the PS3 and it equated to about the same kind of level.

I find the bass in RFOM really good. Explosions get my chair shaking even at low volumes. Even tanked drives in Tiger Woods give a good thump.

I get really good bass with my system.

I have found that if I send a 96khz signal instead of 48khz signal to my amp the bass doesn't seem to work. I don't know the technical reason, but I think I saw the option on the PS3 to choose between 48/96 which could cause the problem?

I will try and change the settings

Wouldnt that affect both movies and games?

Would have to agree with that! Especially when you use the boost.

Most likely you have done this but maybe if you check the sound options in the game and in the system settings of the PS3 itself.

Seems strange that films are fine but games are not.

Must be your amp. The bass through my Sony HTSS1000 is awesome for movies, music & games. The bass makes my whole room vibrate (always watch the Motorstorm intro, its Ace  )

Maybe, but he mentions that the films sound fine. Just the games.

I checked my subwoofer was actually producing bass while the games are playing and it is but nothing compare to what the 360 games produce.

The PS3 games just seem to lack the punch i get from 360 games.

I have tried using the same optical socket which the 360 uses in the amp and it did not make any difference.I did not really expect it to but it was an option.

I would think all optical cables are more or less the same quality?

If i play a blu-ray copy of Casino Royale on the PS3 then the bass really does have punch. It is only game sound which seems lacking in my opinion.

I guess if i was not comparing it to the 360 sound then i would be happy.
