I want to know how to best guess it without a SPL meter.

What I have done is sat down in my chair, hit the test button, waited for the hissing noise for each speaker, all the speakers I tried to guess at the same hiss level, and set them, not too sure what the sub should be.
Do all the speakers have to be the same sound level, or do different speakers have to be louder?

Ideally all should produce the same level on the test tone, from your seating position.

You will find though, that setting it by ear can be quite inaccurate, and SPL meters can be had pretty cheaply from places like Maplins, for around £30 or less, and it really is worth the investment.

Setting a sub with an SPL meter is very difficult indeed, due to the frequency being reproduced from the sub.

I've found the best way to set the sub is to watch a DVD and gradually dial up the sub volume until your internal organs start to shake but before bleeding from the orifices commences...:D

This thread has gone off topic. If no-one is going to explain 0-10 and which is the loudest I may as well close the thread.
