Sound issues with mkv's

Hi, hoping someoine can help with the sound issues I've been having since installing a new graphics card.

I'm not new to HTPC's but I am by no means an 'expert'. Had my new HTPC for around 6 months now and all good but I was using onboard graphics/sound and it was pixeling on some mkv's.

So I bought a cheap Geforce GT 520 so solves this. Now when I play 720p kmv movies everything is great - no problems. However, the problem starts when I try to play 720p TV series episodes.

If I play the mkv's in W7MC (Which is my playback front of choice) then some of the files' audio will skip - the video plays on regardless. I have only just this minute tried the file in WMP and its playing fine.

If anyone has any ideas what the problem could be then I would be entirely grateful. I did think it was something to do with the file being encoded to a specific video fps however I'm now doubting this due to it playing in WMP.

Cheers.

1) Is your machine 64bit? In which case the default WMP is 32bit, but 7mc is only 64bit. So testing in wmp helps to show the hardware is fine, but the software is not happy.

Report back and we can move onto 2).

Yes the software is 64 bit. Codec wise I went for Win64Components rather than doing it manually. Dont mind uninstalling tho and going single components thought if you think thats better.

ok, well many here like to do it manually. If you want a "pack", then I would try Shark007 (you will need to install both 32bit and 64bit, at least that is what he says, for 7mc, you might be able to just use the 64bit addon). Within his pack you can select which codec should split the mkv open and which codecs should handle the audio and video.

However, back to your problem. Within your current audio codec, can you select bitstream and decoded? Does the problem happen with both? What are you outputting your sound on (ie which physical output from the pc?) and what to?

Just an update first. Watched an episode in WMP (which would be 32) and the problem still occured with the sound. When I watched in VLC the same problem happened with the video - stuttering at some points and going very pixely with big blocks etc (if that makes sense??)

I have the sound outputing from the graphics card straight into the TV via HDMI cable due to me not having my AV reciever as of yet. I will get back to you with regards to the bitstream etc as I'm replying on my laptop at the moment and the issue is with my HTPC.

IIRC there's a known problem with the latest nVidia drivers concerning stuttering or missing sound when playing back .mkvs, although I can't remember the exact details - try rolling back to an older release, or installing the newest beta.
