Sound improvement CD82t + AVR300

    Out of sheer curiosity and for silly money I bought a second hand Musical Fidelity X-10D tubed buffer amp (a little barrel) and connected it between these two, without really expecting anything worthwile.
    To my astonishment the sound clarity and bass control improved markedly: voices stand out much better.
    Anyone having an explanation for this phenomenon?
    As I understand this should not make any sense for high quality equipment like these two...
