Hello apologies if this has been asked before.
I have a 50 Panasonic tv
Denon 1910
Sky +hd box
front speakers
centre speaker
rear speakers

What is the right way to connect everything so i can listen to films through speakers and tv through tv speakers.

Any help really appreciated

Your Denon AVR supports HDMI Standby Source Passthru (see Pg28 of the User Manual).

Connect the SKY box to the AVR with HDMI + an Optical cable and set the AVR to ‘pair/associate’ the relevant HDMI + Optical ports for listening via the AVR/Surround Spks and ensure you choose the relevant HDMI Input as the Standby Source when you want to view/listen via the TV.

Joe

PS I'm assuming you have the Spks connected correctly to the AVR and the AVR configured to suit your Spks/Room – though I note you don’t mention a Sub?

Thanks Joe
Sky box connected via hdmi to amp
optical cable between amp optical tv out and sky box
front speakers connected to left and right front A
centre speakers to centre port
rear speakers to surround/amp assign
I am currently looking for a decent sub/how best to connect that to the amp Joe?

does that sound about right, perhaps you could tell me what settings to use on my amp for this lot

Many thanks for the reply Joe

SKY+ HD
HDMI Out to AVR HDMI In
Optical Out to AVR Optical In

TV
Optical Out to AVR Optical In

AVR
HDMI Out to TV HDMI In

Loudspeakers
Front L, C & R connections look OK.
Surround L & R should go to Surround L & R (A) not the B/Assign connections.

Subwoofer
You will require a screened RCA to RCA cable between the AVR and a suitable Powered (active) Sub.

Popcorn Hour should be connected as per the SKY+ HD box.

HDMI Out to AVR HDMI In
Optical Out to AVR Optical In

Your AVR has multiple HDMI Inputs!

Your AVR should be your system Hub!

Connect your Sources to the AVR with 1 x HDMI + 1 x Optical (or Coaxial) then connect the AVR to the TV with 1 x HDMI - and if required connect the TV to the AVR with an Optical cable (if you ever wish to listen to the TV Tuner via the AVR).

If you want to view/listen in Surround Sound - then with the TV powered On and the HDMI Input the AVR is connected to selected you then choose which Source to view/listen to on the AVR.

If you want to just view/listen via the TV - you power on the AVR, select the required Source then put the AVR into Standby - the AVR will now pass video + audio to the TV.
