Sound drop out on playback?

    Strange problem this.
    I have an ageing sony 725 dvd player connected to a sony 840 amp. About once or twice during a DVD the sound just stops.
    The only way I can get the sound back again is by ejecting the DVD. Only this does not always fix it. I had to watch Matrix Reloaded on my PS2 last night because of this.
    It has to be the DVD player as this does not happen on the PS2. But I am playing the PS2 using optical and the DVD player using Coaxle so it could be the just the coaxle circuit?
    Does this sound like a dirty head problem? The picture is fine all the way through.
