needed to upgrade other parts of my pc so had to reduce sound card budget to around £80, anything around £80 similar to the forte that does DTS and 5.1 surround?

or is it worth living on bread and water for a month and paying the extra for the forte? note if there's any alternatives it would be very useful if they worked in my spare pci express x16 slot :D

    thanks againnnnnn

oh right Thought you new about Eax . Eax is hardware accelerated surround sound for enabled games OpenAl and Directsound (in vista you need to use ALchemy for Directsound) this takes stress off Cpu

here is the EAX site, also at top you will see Eax Games list Creative Sound Blaster Sound Card Technology - X-Fi, EAX and OpenAL

The creative card posted is the XFI this has Eax 5 Hd , on above site at top right there is a GO To, this has all info need to no there :)

only problem with the posted creative card is the sdif out only supports 2 channel to use 6 channel you would need to use the 6ch input on back of pic you posted , from the specs reading on Creative site  also card does not come with an optical lead the card has no coax (your pic)

if your not Bothered about EAX just get the Auzen X-Plosion 7.1 this card comes with a optical lead this must be there preferred choice and the card is coax also ..

or the Zonar card not full EAX support but also has Digitel out not sure on win7 drivers though ..

an optical cable is not a problem, i already have one of them :)

im not too sure what you mean by "the sdif out only supports 2 channel to use 6 channel you would need to use the 6ch input on back of pic you posted"...does this mean if i connect via optical with the creative I won't get 6 channel? will i need to connect the green black and yellow wires to get 6 channel?

main things i need are DTS (I have a few DTS music albums, 1080p movies) and 5.1 surround for gaming (so that i can hear people shooting behind me :D)

from what i read on the creative site for above card yes and you have need to use the green, black, yellow plugs .. i thought they would of sorted this due to the above cards auzen and asus can send 5.1/7.1 via coax or spdif (optical) there is an addon for the creative card to send 5.1 over digital but then that is more expense ..:(

the creative card is the same as the on i posted on overclockers only difference is that titanium has X-ram 64 mb some games use that to load in sounds so you get faster frames .. both are pci express 16x ..

the asus is Pci i posted the pci express 16x version above but link not working:mad:
