Sound Card Advice (Optical vs Digital out)

Right I'm basically looking for a Vista compatible 5.1 PCI sound card, which I can use to hook my PC up to an amp (thinking http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=ONKY-TXSR506-BLK) for surround sound. So that means I need a sound card with optical or digital out right to plug into the inputs on the left of that amp?

I've been looking at this http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(16186)Creative-Soundblaster-XFi-Series-Xtreme-Audio-OEM.aspx which has "1 x audio - SPDIF output". If I buy a 3.5mm to Phono converter will that be sufficient for 5.1 from Games and Movies etc?

I've seen contrasting opinions and I really don't know which brands are best. Anyone recommend any card that does what I want reasonably cheap?

Around 50 or so would be OK I guess. I've just noticed my mobo does 5.1 out via a RCA (i think) jack, so a soundcard isn't immediately needed as first thought, and so I'll be able to save up a bit and spend more if required.

Any recommendations?

do you do alot of gaming? i.e you need xfi? i would say mine but it is double your buget

but there is this

Scan Computers UK: Auzentech HDA X-Plosion 7.1 DTS Connect Sound Card (BGI-HDAXP-D)

and this

Scan Computers UK: Creative SoundBlaster X-FI Xtreme Music PCI UAA OEM - Fully Vista Compliant

both have optical out no messing with 3.5 mm leads

Basically, the majority of my gaming is CS:S (and some other Source games). Mostly the PC is used for music, albeit thro' really tinny PC speakers. Will check those out. Don't hesitate to post your own, as I said, I can always save a bit more, as it's not an immediate purchase.
