This picture was taken in a graveyard at night, using an off camera flash set up to the right of the camera. The camera was on a tripod and I used a wireless shutter release to take the picture. As the shutter is released, the flash fires illuminating me and the gravestone for a fraction of a second. I then step out of the picture and use a long exposure to bring out the intensity of the sky. Only post processing is a slight crop and very small exposure adjustment. I think I've captured quite allot of 'decay' in it.

On a basic level, the picture is of a gravestone, the link to a grave and decay should be obvious. However I think the picture is a good metaphor for the belief in life after death. Whilst the body decays many people believe an almost ethereal entity can live on, whether it be religious as in a soul or purely a 'spooky ghost'. I am stood next to the grave appearing ghostly looking to the skies, maybe heaven? Also from a technical point of view, the initial image of my body (created by the illumination from the flash) is decaying throughout the length of the exposure due to the camera picking up the light from the sky behind me.

Then again I could just be spouting arty farty bull-s#!t ;)
But seriously this is the first photo Iv'e submitted to the forums so all feedback/criticisms are welcomed.

    Thanks for looking:)

    Looking good too funky.
Did you not end up doing any PP to it then?

Like the shot and the thought behind and the processing within. For me a great entry for a different theme - more like well beyond decay than within it, if you see what I mean.
