Sorry, not really sure where to put this as it is a general AV question!

    Er, yeh. Hi.

My cousin is having a party in a field (he lives on a farm) sometime soon. And we are thinking, "in a field the music is gona seem pretty quiet with no walls to contain it".

So, what I am wondering is this. My amp has a phono line-out, so if I plug that into his amp and have mine powering my two speakers also and his amp powering his two speakers, will there be lag? I mean will the two pairs of speakers be playing the same stuff at the same time? Or will there be a digital delay of some kind?! I will most probably take my PC there and play MP3s off that, rather than using CDs.

Also, if I was to do that does it risk damaging any of the equipment? Its all cheap stuff lol.

    Cheers. :)

(Mods, please move this thread if there is a more suitable forum I should have put it in).

You would certainly notice a lag if the speakers are a long distance apart. Sound travels at ~330m/s so if they were spaced 75m apart that would equate to something like a quarter second difference which would be audible. Running electrical signals that distance shouldn't cause a problem as long as you use decent cables and the line drivers in the amplifiers and source are good enough.

The best option really would be to acquire a proper PA system as high-fidelity is always going to be lacking in a field. Maybe have a word with the local pub, school, town hall, DJ or similar and see if you can rent their equipment for the night. :)
