    Hi folks.

Just got home with my Sopranos R2 Season 1 disks (£7.99 in HMV) and have only just noticed their 4:3

Does anyone know if they were filmed in 4:3 or have they been cropped as the R1 is 1.85:1.

I think I might be taking them back and ordering off the net...

    Regards

I've only ever seen half of the 1st episode of the 1st season.

Struck me as the sort of programme I'd like and so wanted to wait until I could watch the whole thing. only just got around to picking up the older eps as the disks are quite expensive and I had other stuff I wanted to watch also.

The rewind site lists the R1 boxset as being 1.85:1 anamorphic though...

    Regards

The R1 boxsets are expensive but worth every penny! I would take it back and source the cheapest season 1 box (and 2 and 3 for that matter) and go for it..... The R1 releases are all anamorphic 1.85:1, Dolby Digital 5.1 and presented extremely well. Possibly my favourite TV series of all time.

    my mistake sorry.

I couldn't confirm via dvd as I have lent S3 to a mate

I wish I had S1 and S2 on R1 in the boxset. The packaging is far better and I am not sure if this applies to S1 and S2 but on R1 S3 there are only 4 disks rather than the 6 with R2

    CD-Wow had all 3 seasons R1 for around £45

I do not think you will find the R2 boxsets much cheaper

I have all 3 boxsets (R2) and all were bought from HMV so here are the specs for the respective 3 :

Season 1 - Red Box, Dolby Digital 3.0 (centre and two rear channels), 4:3 pan and scan

Season 2 - Blue Box, Dolby Digital 5.1, Anamorphic widescreen

Season 3 - Smaller black box with fold out disc trays, DD 5.1, Anamorphic widescreen

Season 1 says "Dolby Digital" on the back but it's only 3.0 as opposed to 5.1 so it's sneaky and IMO a bit naughty of Warner Bros. Once you start watching this excellent programme you aren't really bothered about the technical aspects, IMO the 3rd best TV programme ever.
