    Hi All,

just a quick question. the display on my sony940 seems to change from (eg) DVD to
AUTO FORMAT DECODE every so often during films (it's not during layer changes, that only happens once). it's not a huge problem as you can just turn the display off but it catches my eye when it changes. it also comes up with UNLOCK sometimes! any suggestions on how to get rid of these. i'm nearly sure it didn't do it when i got it first but i hit some button or combination when messing one day and started it off.

    cheers,

    bark

This is a shot in the dark, try turning the rds off in the tuner section.
I have the 925 and the radio would jump in while watching a dvd, you never know it could be playing up with the auto format decode.

The UNLOCK means that there is a drop out in the digital signal, and the AUTO FORMAT DECODE probably means it is selecting the appropriate decoder each time it unlocks.

    Check your digital cable.

The UNLOCK message also appears on my Amp but only since I plugged in both Optical and Coaxial cables from the DVD player to the Amp.I think all that is happening is the Amp is switching from Optical mode(Sky Digital) to Coaxial mode (DVD) and is nothing to worry about.Try switching the Amp to AUTO via the Input Mode button behind the front panel, if you are using Optical cable.

How do you turn the 940 display off? I can only reduce it by 60%

Using the cursor keys go through the receiver menues until you find 'DISPLAY<NARROW>' pres the left or right cursor so you get 'DISPLAY<WIDE>'

After you have done this you should find that pressing the display button reduces the brightnes down to off!
