Both are excellent. But I reckon the AX620 pips the Sony to the post. Simply sounds better to me, and it has those lovely component inputs to output.

Have a look at the Marantz SD5200 as well.

    And demo demo demo!

Also have a look at the denon 1802/2802 the 2802 is a little over your budget but it is a cracking amp.

    Hi there,

I don't know what the current lowest price is for the 1802 but there's an unused one on eBay witha buy price of £335? Just in case your interested. Came across it on my daily browse of the AV gear :) .

    Cheers

I've got a Marantz SR7200 which is great for both HC and music, if you care about the music sound as well then the SR5200 might be a good idea as the Marantz is a crackin bit of kit for both music and HC.

and it's £399 which is just inside your budget.

Other people have had clipping problems but I've been lucky.

At the end of the day though it's best to trust your own ears and check out your options at a local shop even if you do decide to buy online later.

HK amps are pretty stunning - you can turn them up to max without any distortion. The amplifier is so good that they don't need impedance switches like the Yamaha's and Sony's. They are also excellent in stereo.

Plus they have an ezset up system to calibrate the delay and sound levels using the remote control.

Look on the hardware section of this website for 2 good reviews, beating the Yamaha 620 ...

I have one (which you can probably guess) and compared to my previous Yamaha is miles better.

Everyone on this chat site either goes for Denon or Yamaha - probably because everyone else does. Dare to be differant and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Or £350 if you register over at DVD forums, or shop about.... :)

RE Harmon Kardon, the new stuff is overpriced, especially compaired to the new Yamaha stuff that hits this month (RXV620RDS was discontinued last month, so should be some bargains about). You`ll get the older well reviewed HK models like AVR3000 and 4000 cheap if you shop about as they have just been replaced also, but the new AVR2500 is well overpriced IMO, you could have a Marantz SR5200 for less!
