Sony XH90 4K LCD TV Preview

XH90 looks like an great successor of the XF90. This is going to be an great TV for the PlayStation 5.

It's a successor of XG8505 and not XF9005.
Where does it say that, looks to me like xh9005 is xf9005 and xh9505 is xf9505 replacement.

Surely xh8505 is replacement for xg8505 especially given uk model numbers below.
Or do you have link that counters this?

UK models: KD-55XH9005, KD-65XH9005, KD-75XH9005, KD-85XH9005

UK models: KD-43XH8505, KD-49XH8505, KD-43XH8196, KD-49XH8196, KD-55XH8196, KD-65XH8196, KD-43XH8096, KD-49XH8096, KD-55XH8096, KD-65XH8096, KD-75XH8096, KD-85XH8096

UK models: KD-49XH9505, KD-55XH9505, KD-65XH9505, KD-75XH9505, KD-85XH9505

Sony TV 2020: every Sony Bravia and Master Series announced at CES 2020

I thought it's a XF9005 or XG9005 successor aswell but the lack of X1 extreme processor was confusing and after I saw the following video where the guy from Sony said it's a XG8505 successor it all made sense.

It even has very similar stand/feet as XG8505. XH8505 is in available only in 43" and 49" just like last year XG8305 while XH9005 starts from 55" just like XG8505 from last year.

As it looks

XG9505 = XH9505
XG8505 = XH9005
XG8303 = XH8505

and so on

What? Sony don’t offer many gaming features on their TVs, with ALLM the only thing they offer. No VRR, no interpolation in game mode, poor input lag relative to rivals.

Thanks watched the link, that's a pity that xf9005 dropped with no successor.

So choices in 2020 are lcd xg9505 or oled, looks like Sony is trying to push us down oled route.

I wouldn't say that. The XH95 can pretty much be considered the combined successor to the XF90 and XG95; it's very much in that same ballpark performance-wise as those two TVs.

The X90 series meanwhile takes a step down, replacing the X85 series and bringing much needed improvement to the mid-range. I think Sony's rejigging of things makes sense.

Makes sense from what perspective? Sony’s or the consumers?

Prices and availability of the XH90 series were listed on valueelectronics in the USA
55X900H = $ 999.99 (early May)
65X900H = $ 1,399.99 (early May)
75X900H = $ 2,199.99 (early May)
85X900H = $ 3,499.99 (early May)

4K Ultra HD LED TV Sony XH9005, updated specifications

I really hope they fix 1440p120 and make the black performance to be as good as it was with XE90 (or better). I really want to get Sony again. :D

The XG95 is basically the XF9005 with a slightly better processor and better tech but Sony for some strange reason decided to keep producing the XF. My understanding is the XH95 is the successor to the XG95 and the XH90 succeeds the XG85.

XG95 has less contrast than XF90 and more brightness, resulting in much worse black level especially in HDR, and XF90 had the same "progress" from XE90. XG95 also dropped 1440p120 which existed in XF90, though it looked horrible in XF90.

Also, XG85 is terrible IPS tv, XH90 isn't successor to it by any stretch.

the XH9005 is the same as XF9005 of 2018 with some improvements ! ;)

absolutely not
the XH90 has many new functions, which are specified under HDMI 2.1 and older models, such as the XF90, are missing
New functions are 4K/120p, VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode),
this is more than just an improvement

that's what I meant by improvements, but the rest is the same ! ;)
last year there was only one size in 49 inches Sony KD-49XG9005 replaced by the XH9005 this year in 4 sizes 55/65/75/85" !

XH9005 is not a successor of XF9005 or XG9005, it does not have the X1 extreme chip like XF9005 and XG9005 but only the normal X1 like XG8505 and the Sony guy clearly says in the video below that XH9005 is a successor of XG8505.

Here is also a list from Sony which shows which model replaces which but it's in a very small resolution

XG9505 does not have worse blacks then XF9005. I had both and did a side by side comparison, XG9505 has better PQ in nearly everything. I also have XE9005 and XG9505 has the best picture of all three, especially in HDR and DV.

And yes XH9005 is a successor of XG8505.

apparently you're right, Sony mixed it up this year !
to be continued.

Yep, it seems the X90 series has moved down and taken the place of the X85 series, while the X95 series now takes over where the X90 series used to sit. So the XH95 is basically a combined replacement for both the XG95 and XF90.

Sony decided to do a bit of rejigging, and it's understandable that it confuses people!

It all started to stall when they dropped the XE9305 range. That for me was the moment Sony started pushing the OLED over LCD .
