Hi guys,

Bought a new car, changed my HU over and now it's asking for a security code?

  • I've tried resetting the unit
  • I've tried all combinations know to man
  • I've even phoned Sony themselves but they were useless

Anybody got any other otions?

Liam. :smashin:

If you bought the Sony new ? surely you will have the code in the paperwork that came with the unit ?
If you still cant find the code - there are car audio "code" specialists that advertise in autotrader that can re code the unit for you , for a small fee .

I did buy it from new and I do have the paperwork & CD that came with it, and you'd think it would be that simple yes, but it's not. It simply tells you to enter the code, without telling you anything about it, and if you want to deactivate the feature, you have to enter the code first to deactivate it. Nice.

Looks like autotrader it is.

From the manual
This unit has a security function to discourage theft. Enter a 4-digit number as your security code. Once the security function is activated, you need to enter the security code to turn on the unit after re-installing the unit in another car or charging the battery

Exactly, what 4-digit code? I've never entered one and I've had this thing in my own 2 cars, from new.

I've now finally got through to somebody worth speaking to at Sony and have been given this reply in case anybody else has similar issues:

Got to be worth ringing them as I suppose they might just want proof of ownership and give you the code . Just an aside car dealers used to write the code in big felt tip on the outside of stereos -- not very secure in case of theft but good for them swapping unit between cars !

Yea apparently they want to serial code from the sticker on the underside of the unit, which I've got.. didn't spot any felt tip writing :(
