    Hi,

Well not really a problem but I am hoping there is a way around this "feature". The field of view of the viewfinder (lcd) is quite a bit less than the actual field of view recorded on tape. This makes it very difficult to accurately frame certain scenes without either cropping the scene or zooming in too far.

Is there a way to set the viewfinder field of view such that what you see is what you actually get? Incidentally, the video output of the camera copies the viewfinder, so that using an external monitor does not help.

As one would expect, the manual makes no mention of it.

    Regards, Rob

You are probably seeing the problem on a PC screen (all 720x576 pixels), which shows you the entire frame. The side finder and viewfinder do a fairly good job of imitating how the picture will look on a TV (with overscan).

You cannot adjust the viewfinder scan, but be aware that you should take a 10% safe action area into account, 20% if you are shooting 14:9 safe.

    Hope I've explained OK.

Thanks Duncan, yes that explains the situation. In this particular case, I am using the camera in a fixed location and trying to frame a scene accurately, using as much of the 720 pixels wide as I can. Not too easy to do!

    Regards, Rob

(PS did you receive my email of a few weeks ago?)
