£300 in the 40-43in range is going to be tightish, but doable. The Sony you mentioned is OK, but its very much entry from them. The LG 5 series has always been decent, although I havn't seen that model in a while, so can't say. The Samsung 5200 isn't a model I've seen either, although I assume its 100hz 5500 panel in the casing of their 4500 series. Again, should be fine.

The alternative would be the Samsung J5100, which isn't smart, but with 100hz screen. Currently £279 with 2 HDMI's. But the LG/Samsung are at the same level, with refresh being a bit better on the LG, and blacks a bit better on the Samsung, thinking about 2014. Both fine, and decently priced. However, the LG and Samsung both only has 2 HDMI's.

You could just wait a little, and spend a little more. See whats in clearance, returns, etc, and there is always New Year! The cracking Samsung H6400 is currently £399 - if you could get a really good deal on that (£350ish), then you'd do very well - a better spec than the ones you've spotted. Buy the best you can, for the least you can!

At the very least, go into a store and have a look at them - its your eyes, so its worth looking before buying.
