Seems a very good price.
Nope. Ordered mine yesterday, got fed up waiting for someone to post a price here.
Thats an excellent price, Paul you will have to post your thoughts on this pj once you receive it. I am really interested in getting one but at the moment a lot of my funds are going into my cellar conversion.
That is a fantastic price - do you know when they will be available? Don't you just hate upgradeitis
Sorry, have i missed something - what good price and from where?
Thanks IW32, that is a great price!!! Just need stock!
Just been told in stock 7-14 days from placing order at unbeatable
Are you not best ordering from a Projector dealer that can offer a free dead pixel check and better after sales service for virtually the same price.
I think the issue is that this site is quoting delivery times, the dealer I think you're thinking of isn't .. not that I'm suggesting that's a bad thing, seeing as how I've waited for an H77 from that source not knowing when it'll arrive .. but I know the temptation to buy from somewhere who's offering an idea of when they expect stock.
Of course, this presumes that the delivery times they're saying prove to be true.
One of the benefits of ordering over the 'net is that you can return the goods within 7 days - not that I would suggest doing so just because of a few dead pixels......!
Someone over on AVSForums has reported that they have received their HS51. Looks like the deliveries have begun (at least in the US).
In Germany it costs around the 1200-1250, so they are on the good way
It seems the sub £1500 market is about to become a Sony monopoly.....
as long as they have manage to fix the dynamic iris delay problem. this could be special
I just cant wait for this PJ to come in!
I have been waiting patiently and been speaking to Shoot and Show (who are asking £1799 with a price match) and chasing them once a week for some update. Seems Sony have created a bit of a bomb here in that the units destined for the UK are all but sold.
The only thing that is gonna hinder my installation is that I will need a new Unicol plate for my bracket for the HS50 and I need to change the hardwired power socket from a maple (had a Panasonic) to a kettle plug. Xmas is gonna be a good time for movies and games and Footie!
Out of interest how many people have dona a pre-order?
The likely retailers stocking this seem to be
Shoot and Show (Nexnix £1799)
Ben Miller (£1599)
Anyone else you can think of?
Just looked on the ShootandShow web site and they have dropped to £1596 incl delivery they will also do a pixel check I think.
I'm having terrible PJ trouble...
Been waiting years for projectors to get to a price point I can afford with performance I would be happy with.
Thought the point had arrived when I heard about the Infocus 4805, but although I was deeply impressed with the picture (easily good enough for me auditioning with night scenes from Apocalypse Now!), I suffeerd horrribly from Zippy and Bungle Syndrome (rainbows).
Then I hear about the next gen of LCD projectors (AE700 and HS50 and I guess a couple of others). Hurrah.
Only one problem - where do I get one!?
Been trying to get a look at an AE700 for some time, but cannot find anyone within range where I could demo one in a decent room. Closest was a Panasonic shop which was showing it in the shop. When I commented on odd edge enhancement they said "Oh well, its running off a budget DVD player only on a 20' component (I think he meant composite) cable". Duh?
Cannot find another dealer (I in Camberley but would travel) and I won't buy without seeing.
HS50 seems to be rocking horse stuff. And most of the interesting dealers (e.g. Nexnix) don't seem to be open on a Saturday??
By the way, Shootandshow are advertising £1695.95 now so the price seems to be about as dynamic as the Iris on this one.
Any advice (stocking, demoing dealer details within 30 miles of me would be great)?
Yup, The Sony centre shops....
£2K. oh and they are only to order as well
Yeah I went into my one in Milton Keynes and they quoted £1618+VAT+markup.
They are franchises and get a price from Sony that in my opinion is not competitive. They rely on people not to do their homework and just walk in on a whim and buy.
Beleive it or not though someone will buy from them! HS20 was in stock at £1900 I think which is pretty high.
Its like when I went into my Panasonic dealer - AE700 for £17-1800 and said he can sell them all day long so why discount?
There are those that will scour for the best prices and those that don't care for the price. It's true.
In the Panasonic shop they said £1600 for the Ae700. As I carried on looking around the shop I saw him looking at Kelkoo which he quickly shut down as I approached
Just read your post more carefully.
If your looking for a AE700 goto Krish and speak to John Dogra He is doing the AE700 for £1299 and he is prob about 20 miles from you, they do demo's as well.
Web Site with details are www.krishav.co.uk
Hope this helps.
Paul - Have you been given an ETA on your PJ at all?
Actually I cancelled my Unbeatable order and went with a local Sony Center dealer for the same price. They said they expected it in the next few weeks, no real firm date at all (I suspect I won't get an allocation from the first batch to arrive but thems the breaks).
In the meantime they kindly loaned me an HS20 which I've been playing around with and learning the menu system and trying out a few tweaks. It has a surprisingly good display, in the bright scenes at least. Appalling black level though, glad I'm getting the HS50, the '20 just doesn't do it for me.
Funny enough, as an ex crt owner, I found the bright scenes on the '20 to be very good indeed, certainly well within my limits of acceptability and in some ways better than a crt (light scatter in non-LC crt's can wash out the detail in dark objects in mostly bright scenes, this does not occur to the same extent in lcd's). With no dead pixels, no VB and minimal SDE from my viewing position, the only real flaw (and for me its a killer) in the '20 is the black level which as I said above will be mostly resolved by the '50 (or at least by a sufficent margin to keep me happy, off the top of my head I think the '50 has a cr about 5 times the level of the '20!). Colours were very nice.
I had the '20 set up and running within about 10 minutes of opening the box. I had it running to my satisfaction about 20 minutes after that. I'd totally forgotten how easy digital is to use compared to a crt, amazingly easy and fast.
My taste of the '20 has quite simply whetted my appetite for the '50 - bring it on!
Thats such a result, what sony centre did you use? It was very nice that they have lent you a hs20 - how did yoy wangle that one!
Never heard of a Sony centre price matching a Web site mate, you are truly a star in pulling that alone off!!
This was in Aberdeen. No wangle required, just superb service from the staff who were clearly interested in helping a customer. Can't ask for more than that.
I visited them in person, I would suggest that any other interested parties do the same as they were friendly and happy to talk to you. Maybe not the most technically versed (its a general a/v shop rather than specialist) but certainly the most friendly folk I've met in a while and certainly deserving of my money. Can't guarantee they will give an HS20 to everybody but I'm sure they'll strike a good deal on a '50.
Almost forgot, they were willing to replace the '50 in the event of any dead pixels, that alone puts them above most online dealers and was a major point in their favour. That probably moreso than the price-match convinced me to buy from them, the '20 was icing on the cake.
Thank-you. I dealt with them in a previous incarnation I believe when I bought a Sony DVD player. Turned out it was a parallel import which I only found out much later. Didn't cause me any problems (and in fact meant I got a better spec'ed player - with component out).
But I did check out their site recently and note they make no claims about stock being UK-supplied unlike many others who make a point of it.
I'll check with them direct, but if anyone knows.....?
I think I'd me more nervous about buying something like a PJ which might not have a solid warranty.
p.s. can anyone tell me what SCE is please? (from Paul's post above - I'm still trying to get up to speed with acronyms )
Sorry Stuart, that should have read SDE (screen door effect). I'll edit my original post.
have you seen the hs50 or are you buying unseen, have you heard anything about the noise level, how was the hs20s noise level
Buying unseen but I've read enough (and having played with the '20) to know it will do me just dandy! Gotta watch what people say about it though and try to work out whats WOW factor inflation and whats real world critical eye reports. My interest kicked in when a few of the experts at AVSForums said that it was the best LCD they'd seen contrast-wise and that they could happily live with it in their own homes. Its certainly a major step-up for contrast level which is crucial for me (and for others no doubt).
I thought the noise level of the '20 was low BUT I've only been used to having crt's for the past few years so perhaps I'm not the best to judge by. Having said that, it wasn't much louder than my HTPC so I'd say that it was indeed quite quiet. Unless you intend having the pj right next to you when watching a movie I doubt you'll hear it expect when the soundtrack is very low. The HS50 is by all accounts even less noisey than the '20
I was originally thinking of going for an H77 but much prefer the higher contrast level of the Sony and having had a good look at the HS20, I'm completly happy with its level of performance other than the contrast so I'm happy to pay quite a bit fewer sheckels for more or less a similar level of performance (not saying the Sony is equal or better than the H77 but its close enough for me).
I suspect we'll see them arrive in the UK in the next couple of weeks, they've started arriving in the US in small numbers and I think mainland Europe too.
Might be worth mentioning that we'll likely see even higher cr pj's appearing next year, the '50 is merely the harbinger of greater things to come!
