Hi all i have found one of these going cheap however it has a fault.
When it was first plugged in with it worked awesome and the picture was bright.

Then it shut off and would not turn on again.

Now if it is unplugged then plugged in it will start up again and then shut down.
Can anybody hazard a guess as to what may be wrong and if so how much it will cost to repair?
If its not too much i may buy this unit and spend some cash getting it running ok so any help would as ever be much appreciated.
    Cheers,John.

I know working on the Barco Galaxy PJ that after shutting down you must leave it for 10 mins before trying to switch it on again, otherwise you get a error message.

It may be down to the same thing, there is a internal temperature sensor that prevents it been switched back on if above temp. Leave it to cool and try again.

Might not be the problem but it is the only thing that sounds familiar.

Yep, I am a CAD designer of these type of systems but mainly on a larger scale than normal home theatre stuff. Planetariums and virtual reality centres..stuff like that. I also generate all the performance figures to make it work to the optimum.

Been known to get my hands dirty on site a few times too.

Cheers Anders, It sounds like you have an interesting job.

Where are you in Leeds by the way? I'm in Horsforth.

Did you get the projector? If so let me know what the final outcome is? I am interested in purchasing a similar model with believe it or not roughly the same problem!

    I know it Anders,
sinbrad i decided not to but it, i was advised that such a large highly specified machine mignt be a very expensive not to mention tricky first foray into CRT so im giving this one a miss.

I am still in the market though for an inexpensive CRT PJ if any of you have one for sale

    Regards all,
    John.

    Hi John,
I have a Barco Data 800. I was going to put it on ebay but if your interested let me know. I think most people would consider it an ideal starter crt projector.

Probably a bit late now but the early sony's had a 2 digit error code display to let you know roughly where the fault was. I don't know the 1292 well enough to be sure.
Most Sony's had fan rotation detectors it could be as simple as that.
