I have a Sony handycam which is lovely but even with it set to record in standard definition the resulting videos are too large to email or in some cases to upload to the internet.

For example a 3 minute video is 217MB - saved as MPEG-2. If I convert to .wmv they do reduce to 17MB but the quality is bad.

Can anyone suggest how I can overcome this please as I am close to ditching this lovely camera(a gift) and going back to my Canon Ixus point and shoot that can turn out an ok video!

Check the frame rate, resolution, bitrate and compression used by the Canon. Medianinfo will give the info. Simply match these settings in whatever software you have that will recode the video. The result should be near identical.
