Tempted to get this laptop but was wondering if anyone has this or knows much about it. Thanks.
PC Advisor published a review on this model last week, i nearly bought one but went for the fit model.
What made you change your mind?
PC Advisor gave it a good report, Sony web site were giving free extra 4gb ram and free DVD player on both models, i wanted to upgrade graphic cards which added £130 to base cost. The fit had a newer card found a discount code for 7% Fite was 501 and fit was 584 with bought and free upgrade.
All reviews rated both models fite has more plastic fit is aluminium. base price is for i3 but i went for i5
Ah I see, is the ram upgradable at a later stage for the laptop that I'm questioning? Cheers.
Yes fite is upto 8gb, fit is up to 12gb, just checked Sony website only giving free bluray player. 2 year warranty and 0% finance if bought online.
Try there site for a price and google sony vaio discount code for the extra 7%, i could not find a cheaper price for the same spec.Oh one other diferrerence the fit has a 8gb ssd drive for quicker booting up, another reason for paying extra 84 quid for fit.
So if I get the 4gb fit E can I upgrade the ram in a few months? I'm getting this as an option for a laptop through work so unfortunately I have to get it through work, so no discounts or upgrades for me lol hence me asking if I get the 4gb can I upgrade at a later date
Yes up to 8gb sorry missed your last post
Ah cool I did have a look at the fit e in currys today
Just noticed this thread and wanted to add I've just bought a 15' Fit-E (500GB hard drive) and to my surprise there are actually two RAM slots and you can upgrade to 12GB which I did last night with the 8GB module I bought from Crucial (it's scanner comes back saying the max is 12GB but it also says only 1 slot!). Not at home now but can post a pic/screenshot when I get back tonight.
EDIT: Screenshot of results from Crucial post upgrade
Oh that's awesome! Thanks for sharing this. How are you finding the laptop in general?
Good although Windows 8 takes a bit of getting used to (having not owned Windows machine in 10 years!) the touchscreen seems remarkably natural to use in conjunction with the trackpad/keyboard.
The machine is pretty speedy Football Manager flies compared to my aging Macbook Pro. The only real quibble is the keyboard which seems to not have much travel in the keys but I'm still typing at a decent speed (also it's nice to have a number pad again) and considering the price for me it certainly wasn't a deal breaker.
It's only been 3 days but I'm pretty pleased with it, I am considering switching out the optical drive and replacing it with an SSD at some point.
That's good to know as I'm looking at picking up the new football manager. It has been years since I played and I'm missing it haha. I did read in one review that the hard drive was slow/sluggish. Have you noticed this?
Not yet but haven't really done anything intensive so far it seems fine for everyday use.
A lot of reviews are comparing HD to ssd when saying sluggish. They are not gaming laptops
True. As long as I can play footie manager I shall be happy
