I currently have an Xbox One X connected to a 1080p Sony Bravia TV and, to my surprise, I discovered that I can watch 4K UHD BD movies on this TV, albeit they are obviously downscaled and lacking HDR. Still, 4K UHD BDs usually have much higher bitrates and better quality audio so I can see a small improvement with some movies over the standard BDs.

I collect BD steelbooks and for the last two years have been building up a collection of 4K UHD BDs since you get the standard BD with them anyway so I can watch both.

I want to replace my standalone Sony BD player with a 4K one, the UBP-X700, as it is more power efficient than using a console but won't be buying a 4K TV until later on this year. Does the UBP-X700 work like the Xbox One X and still allow you to play 4K discs? Or does this player *only* work with a 4K TV?

    Thanks in advance.
