I'm just looking for a new disc spinner than can play 4k Blu-Ray, is there any major advantage going for the X800 over the X500, or is the X700 the sweet spot? Can't really work out the differences between these 3 players, my needs are basic really.

X800 no DV, but better build quality apparently. X500 non DV version of X700.

As mentioned above the X800 doesn’t do Dolby Vision if that matters to you. It most definitely is the best for build quality again that may or not matter to you. It is definitely the most versatile in terms of formats of discs it will play e.g. it’s the only one of the 3 that plays DVD Audio discs.

To make it more complicated Sony are releasing a MK 2 version of the 800 soon which does have Dolby Vision

If none of the above matters to you I’d get the 700
