All a bit petty really

With all the fuss thats recently been kicked up over this you'd think company employees might think twice about stuff like this.

It amazes me sometimes how such a massive industry can act like a playground slagging off match.

The IP Address actually resolves to the Liverpool Studio for SCEE, where I used to work.

And to be honest, it's probably nothing more than one of the lads I used to work with in the QA Dept taking the **** a bit. It's hardly "SONY trashing Halo 3"... it's been blown completely out of proportion.

If I had made the edit and I worked for, say, British Aerospace... would that mean the title should read "British Aerospace trashes Halo 3"??? Of course not...

The actions of one person does not define a company's actions.

True, there are subtle differences but if you only had a quick look at both Halo 2 and Halo 3 a casual observer would be hard pressed to tell the difference.

You are of course absolutely right. One persons actions shouldn't define a company's stance. But come on, it's Sony, a direct competitor of MS. You could place this comparison into any arena, cars, software, food, diy stores... and it would be seen the same. If you are in direct, bitter competition as these are, it's pretty hard to see it as anything other than a cheap shot from a Sony studio.
Whilst I do believe that Sony themselves are not responsible for this, I also think that Sony are going to suffer some more humiliation, as they will inevitably be implicated in it.

Well, technically it doesn't. The IP block to which that address belongs to is registered to SCEE, but if you trace the IP it routes to Virgin owned Blueyonder.co.uk and Telewest networks which apparently are normal ISPs/broadband access providers. It does go through SCEE routers, but then gets outside again.

There was a 5 year deal for the PS2 network, would be a natural assumption that they would provide the corporate internet access as well. Telewest did provide corporate packages.

So that would explain the Virgin Media/Blueyonder/Telewest routing.

There is also the fact the IP address could have been spoofed.

Most likely explanation is that someone at work was bored and decided to do it for a laugh!! :)

    *sniff*

Ah the sweet smell of a bad-publicity-inspired-internet-usage-policy being born.

Tend to agree it was more someones lame idea of humour rather than an actual malicious attempt by Sony, wow the SDF must have been jealous they did not think of it first (although thought seldom seems to appear in much of their 'efforts') *rotf*

I hope I am not disappointed by Halo 3. I basically want it for the online coop. I just hope I am not bored of the game when I get it as I fear it wont be as great as people are expecting. Finger crossed I am wrong and its a cracking game. :)

I'm getting it for co-op too. Tbh I doubt it will be any worse than the single-player campaign of Halo 2...

I think it will be much of the same. Which isnt a bad thing, but i think loads of people are expecting a bit more in the graphics and gameplay department. :)
