Sony to Update Bravia's allowing Skype and Smartphone App: Available Now

Sony are to release a firmware update for some of their Bravia's allowing Video Skype access and use of Smartphones as a remote/keyboard to enhance their online experience.

To make use of the video calling through Skype, you'll of course require a camera/mic and, by the looks of it, that will have to be a proprietary number in the shape of the CMU-BR100.

If, like us, you find using a conventional TV remote too clunky an experience when using these new fangled online services, the smartphone app sounds good. Media Remote is a free app available for Android-based smartphones, iPhone or iPad which as well as allowing them to act as a remote controls, will also allow use of the particular devices' keyboard, onscreen or otherwise. In any case, it should make things a lot more user friendly.

Alas Sony have neglected to tell us for which models this firmware applies and when it will be available but we have contacted them for further details. Naturally, when it does surface, it will be available through the network connection.

UPDATE: Sony say it's available now and for all internet connceted Bravia's. It doesn't get much more simple than that.
