What a strange idea
Blu-ray.com - Sony to Join Games and Movies on Blu-ray
Odd, I wouldve thought that financially it would be more beneficial to keep them seperate.
And it's such a gimmick, sounds fantastic, but like all other gimmicks, turns out to be pointless
And they're probably gonna charge a heck of a lot more than the game and film would be seperately
Hopefully you won't be forced to buy both ie. you just want the quantum of solace movie but they force you to buy the game as well.
I think there could be a couple of good versions of these that good work.
WWE ones with say the Legends of Wrestling game plus a copy of Wrestlemania on Blu-Ray or the same with the Ghostbusters film/game
However i can see the likes of EA jumping at this. Bundle a film like Iron Man or Batman and chuck in your crappy game version which no-one will ever buy anyway
Sounds about as good an idea as minidisc or UMD.
How very meh...
In fact, can anyone name a game based on a film that's any good? I bet there aren't many... I can't think of any off the top of my head right now...
And conversely can anyone name a film based on a game that was any good? Can't think of many of those either!
This isn't an attempt to go off-topic - it's kinda relevant i think...
I'm not paying £40 for a movie!!!
Resident Evil springs to mind. Not many others. Suppose Silent Hill was ok.
It was a while ago but Goldeneye on the N64 is the only good game based on a film that springs to my mind.
As for the other way around, er......no!
The afore mention Quantum of Solace was quite good I thought.
I agree with you 100%. I don't think I have ever, ever bought either.
If we are talking all formats , then Chronicles of Riddick is a good game, as is The warriors by rockstar and the new ghost busters game is looking pretty good, that's all i can think of, not many though compared to all that have been released.
OT i don't see this being all that great, most game to movie or movie to game tie ins are cack i see this as a way publishers and movie studios can boost sales for their poor efforts by having one with the other, as long as we are not forced to get them then i'm not all that bothered with it.
Queue another [email protected] Uwe Boll film and a relatively decent game why not concentrate on using Blu-Ray to produce things like Fallout 4 and make it 4x the size of the third!!! Sometimes I wonder just how much of that Blu-Ray they use for game data!?
Well a movie is 24fps of totally new images with compaction. A game is made from 3D images that morph. A single human character makes up all of his fps by altering the vectors. It would be really hard to use up a single layered Blu Ray in this case.
Maybe the business model would involve there only being one physical version of the disc with both the movie and the game on it. It could be sold at the price for the movie, and activation of the game would follow the purchase of a licence.
What i really want to see is a bundled DVD copy with a bluray.
How many households with BR players still have a DVD player(s) elsewhere in the house. most is my guess.
People don't want to buy the same movie twice and buying on BR means you can't watch it in another room on your SD-DVD player. So people just buy the DVD instead.
Bundled HD/SD would imo see a big increase in BR sales.
If i can remember didnt they release the special edition of stangehold with a copy of a woo film on the blu ray
its a great game - and im glad someone else though of it too
Disney seem to be doing this already. Its a good idea, I would also like to see a digital copy with each Blue Ray sold!
As for joining movies and games on a disc, it makes sense, just not sure it will succeed.
I could see it more aimed at young kids. Say you buy the Blue Ray of Toy Story or Lion King, and it has a fully playable game (not those annoying DVD "games"), it may not be a a full release type game, more like a light weight down load game, i.e. quite simple. I can see parents buying it for their kids, watch the movie, play the game, keep-em quiet over half term type thing.
How about 'Aliens' and the PC game 'Aliens versus Predator'. I hope the frthcoming 'Colonial Marines' is as good on the PS3.
Separate names with a comma.
