I asked the Sony guys at the HiFI show, and they denied all knowledge of any plans, but said those sorts of things wouldn't be heading this way until we had material. Ironic, since Sky were promoting HD and Sony were introducing 1080p projectors.

Not too surprising really, they won't want to announce any new models until the old stock has been sold off.

Actually during the Sony demonstration of the Qualia 004: ( the BIG one) at the show there was a smaller one called "Ruby" siiting on a shelf which the Sony Guy demonstrating said "may" be on sale by xmas 2005 or very early 2006, It wasnt exactly a tiny projector and Im sure it will cost at least same as my Car twice over ( when it was new!!)
    this is it

I was told the big one was £20k as it was hand built to an individuals room requirements. The "small" one will be approx £8k when lauched shortly, very similar internals, shorter throw and not hand built...

For £20k I'd have the new 3chip Sim2 with anomorphic lense :D off to buy several lotto tickets :rotfl:

Cant see that price sticking, its just not competitive and its way overpriced compared to the SXRD sets in the US.

I know we always pay more than the states but the 60" is only $3700 there, the price differential is not usually that much.

As I said the market will dictate the price, I really want 1 (I saw them in the states a couple of months ago and they are excellent) but I will not be paying anything over £3K, Samsung will have a new model out here next year and if Sony price the set at £4K the will not be getting many sales IMO.

I was holding out for the possibility that Samsung might release a new and better version of the pedestal model before Christmas. I need a new TV pretty sharpish, so I guess I might as well order to SP50L7HX now. All current UK DLPs seem to have their flaws, but this Samsung has the fewest.

I cant see Samsung replacing it before Christmas, more likely they will release a new model just before SKY HD gets off the ground next year.

I would really try to wait the SP50L7HX is an old model now, its a lot of money to spend to get TV envy in a few months time.

Information about the new Samsung is being very actively pursued on a French forum. The very same forum reported that the new Samsung's would be announced on 25th November and that date has not changed (so far). BUT - it could all be rumor, speculation or mis-information. Time will tell.

You won't see any difference between the Samsung and the Sagem with regard to black level. Keep focused - 10,000:1 contrast, 10,000:1 contrast.....!

Its coming, we just don't know when exactly.

As for the SXRD sets, if the price holds true then Sony will have simply shot themselves in the foot, no-one will buy them at that price.
    Paul
