    Hey all,

I have the STR-v555es - but not yet any of the other components for the HC system. I bought it for 400 pounds, and was under the impression that it is a good amp, and at this price I did not want to miss the offer...

I am however going to get speakers from the M&K K series... 3 K17s and a pair of K4s. Some people have suggested that the amp may not be up to the job...

Has anyone got this amp and used it to power a similar speaker? Has anyone heard the amp and got any comments. I bought the amp based on the reviews from What Hi Fi - and of course the price.

I demo'd the M&Ks in SevenOaks at the weekend, and mentioned that I had the str-v555es... he didn't seem to think this would be a problem, although he was of course wanting me to buy the M&Ks, so even had he thought is wasn't up to scratch, he may not have said anything...

    Thanks for any input,

    Gav

A fine buy.....mine cost £900 less than a year ago.

Well pleased with the amp, no real complaints at all really.

A friend of mine was demoing M&Ks speakers at SOaks just the other week, and they told him they were the best thing since sliced bread too.

    Any specific questions...fire away..:)

£400??? I paid double that less than a year ago! It was a fantastic buy for £800 - for £400 you can't go wrong. Only slight problem is with autodetect on some DTS DVD's which can be resolved by a firmware flash available from HERE

Is this the VA555 or the V555? as the former is a cracker that does most things for most people whilst the earlier one was (I think) 5.1 only and a bit indifferent?

I can't speak for the OP but mine is the VA555. You are right that the V555 was only 5.1 and is somewhat lacking in features compared to the VA555.

Note, this upgrade is for the VA555ES only.
The V555ES as far as I know cannot be upgraded in any way, and has no port anyway..:thumbsdow
