Sony str-dn1080 combined with wharfedale dx-2 and old satellites for Atmos

Novice Member

I'm looking to upgrade my sony HTIB setup of about 8 years old to something with a bit more punch.

Since I'm interested in playing around with Atmos and on a €1000 budget, l was looking at the onkyo HT-S7800. However the HTIB doesn't completely convince me.

As an alternative I'm currently thinking about combining the Sony str-dn1080 (or maybe the Denon avr-x2400h? It's €100 bugs cheaper for me) with the wharfedale dx-2 5.1 speakers and using two of my old satellites as Atmos height mounted speakers.

Do you think the combination will be any good and/or any other suggestions?

Fyi I can get the wharfedale set without the sub for about €130 cheaper, however I don't feel like I will find a better sub for that price?

Thank you in advance for the advice!

Room - how ideal will your layout be for surround sound and or immersive sound?

System - if you are planning long term you could consider an AVR based 2.0 or 2.1 system and add additional Speakers as and when budget allows.
