Question Sony STR-DH810 muting issue

I have a problem with my Sony STR-DH810 amp - sometimes when it's switched on, it is muted, and you have to manually enable the sound again. The set up as follows:

Sky+ -> STR-DH810 <-> Sony KD55X8505 TV

The Sky+ is connected via HDMI for picture and optical for sound (it's an older box and doesn't support digital audio over HDMI). The amp is connected to the TV via HDMI. I have recently enabled ARC so that when using the TV for the smart TV stuff like Netflix in 4K, the sound would be sent back via the HDMI to the amp. I did notice that it worked OK when using an older configuration that had an optical cable from the TV to the amp. I suspect that the problems are related to enabling HDMI control to get the ARC working.

Has anyone else had a similar issue, and if so, any ideas about how I might fit it?

Control for HDMI on/off on my DN860 controls this. Just try it to see if it works on your unit if you have this choice on your menu.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, if I have HDMI control off, I don't get the sound out from the TV when watching Netflix etc. If it's switched on, then I get the intermittent muting when switching on.

I found an option on the TV to use either the TV speakers or an external audio system. It was on tv speakers, so I switched to external audio, but it still sometimes switches on muted. Back to the drawing board...

might be worth contacting SONY support as you may have a fault.

I've been playing around with this for a couple of weeks now, and I think I know what the problem is... I'm using a Harmony remote, and apparently they don't work well with HDMI control / CEC / Bravia Sync / whatever it's called by different manufacturers. I guess it's a conflict of the remote trying to set inputs etc and the HDMI control trying to do similar things.
