    Hi,

    I'm about to buy myself a Sony 820 AV Reciever (when they are back in stock on Play!) but already own a pair of Sharkoon 5.1 headphones.

    Is it possible to connect these to the reciever to allow me to get all of the inputs (PS3, Sky HD & Xbox360) to feed me 5.1 into the headphones. This would save me the faff of swaping the headphones around when I change which system I'm using.

    This is useful for me later at night to prevent me disturbing the house.

    At the minute I have to swap the optical audio around if I want to use them on another system.

    Thanks...

    Unfortunately the 820 doesn't have a optical output. So you would still have to swap cables.

    Would something like this help, in that case?

    Thanks Kempez, Interesting idea I think with a fair bit of fiddling I might be able to manage something along those lines, does this sound feasible to people (lots of wires!)....
    • Sky HD Optical Audio Out ---> Audio Splitter (1 in 2 out) -->
      1. --> Audio Switch (3 in 1 out) ---> Headphones
      2. --> AV Reciever Optical In
    • Sky HD HDMI ---> AV Reciever HDMI In
    • Xbox360 Optical Audio---> Audio Switch (3 in 1 out) ---> Headphones
    • Xbox360 HDMI ---> AV Reciever HDMI In
    • PS3 Optical Audio---> Audio Switch (3 in 1 out) ---> Headphones
    • PS3 HDMI ---> AV Reciever HDMI In
    I believe I still need the optical audio running from the Sky HD to the AV Reciever as SKY HD can't output dolby sound over HDMI? This is why i've included the splitter.

    I count that I need 6 Optical Audio Cables, 1 Optical Audio Splitter (1 in 2 out) and 1 Optical Audio Switch (3 in 1 out).

    Can anyone spot any holes in this setup e.g. can the PS3 & Xbox output audio via HDMI and via optical audio at the same time?

    The PS3 can't output on both the optical and HDMI at the same time. I think the xbox can tho.

    You right about skyHD (no 5.1 over HDMI), but do you have a digital coax output on it (the pace,samsung and amstrad ones do), use that to go to your amp and optical to your optical switch for the headphones. SkyHD outputs the same signal on both the optical ond digital coax at the same time.
