Sony STR DB940 - sound has died. Help!

Last weekend while enjoying some music up loud, the "Protector" was shown on screen so I turn the unit off to cool. Turned back on and was fine and then the sound cut out with "Protector" displayed again and no sound since. The unit still switches and functions except for sound. Only the signal to the powered sub works. Have removed the cover thinking it might be a fuse but the only 3 together that I saw are fine.
If somebody could offer some help it would be much appreciated. Is it an easy fix or expensive? Is it worth fixing or should I delight my missus and break out the credit card and buy a new amp?
Please give advice.......don't care about the missus!

. o 0 (and this is why children should never be allowed to play on the net...lol)

most likely the amplification section has blown so i'm afraid its most likely cheaper in the long run to just get a new amp.....

if you are in warranty still then obviously get it repaired, but if not, buy the missus *waves to the missus* a nice pressie too :)
