I've seen both recommended in magazines, but also noted on this forum that some have had hissing problems with the Sony.
Sony is lsited as £500 and the Denon £800, so it needs to be sigificantly better if I'm to go for the Denon. What do you think?

Also, can you explain the difference between an Amp and a Receiver. Home Cinema Choice has this split whereas Home Entertainment calls them all Amps - I'm a little confused!

I believe you can pick up the Denon for around the £600 mark, just do a search on this forum or have a look in the adverts in HCC. The difference between a Amp and a receiver is that a Amp does not have a radio tuner built in, whereas a RECEIVER has.

There is no comparison, go for the Denon, it has full 6.1 in EX and DTS ES. I have this amplifier and have also heard the Sony on many occasions and the Denon wins hands down!!

Thanks Paul and JT - Denon will soon have a new customer!
