    Hi All

Currently running a Sony STR-DB1080 amp with 2x front speakers, 2x surround speakers, 1x centre speaker, 1x back speaker and a Sony active subwoofer.
Both my PS3 and Xbox 360 are connected to the amp via optical cables. The amp is set to auto decode but for some unknown reason both the PS3 and Xbox decode to Dolby Digital 3/2.1 and cant get it as 5.1. Done the test tone and sound comes through every speaker even when watchin a DVD sound come through the separate speakers...
    A prob with the amp?

    Cheers

Yep no worries 3/2.1 is just the Sony's way of highlighting that the signal is 3 front 2 rear .1 sub. It does that I suppose because almost any combination is actually possible from 2/2.1, 3/1.1 etc etc and it's trying to show exactly what is going on rather than simply showing 5.1, 4.1, 3.1 etc so you know how many front and rear channels your actually getting.

    Thanks for the info.
Thats why 6.1 is 3/3.1 then also.

Who said I was only referring to the 1080? I'm speaking in general terms in order to emphasise that it needn't be what ypu'd normally expect in order to get 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 etc ;)
