Sony STR-DA1200ES connection to Sony 40W2000 query?

Just got a STR-DA1200ES and going about connecting up my PS3/TV/DVD. However I have a query. Bearing in mind I'm a novice at this and my understanding on inputs/outputs etc is limited, I wonder does anyone know if its possible to get sound through my speakers using a HDMI cable alone, or do I need a separate audio connection? I've read the manual, but as I've said I'm a bit of an idiot where this is concerned, and I'm not clear on this.

The 1200ES was one of the first HDMI equipped amps on the market and the HDMI connections are simply for passthrough/switching. You need a separate audio connection.
