    hi all,

havent used my sony S550 bluray player in a while due to streaming etc...tried to use it today but it wont play blu discs?

it will play dvd fine but not blurays......i did use a dvd cleaner but that did'nt ork...but one thing i've noticed is that i put a clean disc in...but after it wont play and i eject it i notice theres a little tiny smudge mark on the outer edge of the disc....

obviously the player is making it and i'm assuming that is what is making the player unable to read the disc

but no idea why its doing it or why dvd still plays fine?

    any idea or help folks?

    cheers

Blu ray players can be purchased for relatively low prices which could make a repair uneconomical, even 4K players are dropping in price.

Good idea to keep an eye on the Forum's classifieds. Many members are selling good blu ray players to finance the buying of a new UHD player. I've just sold a Pioneer player to do just that so there are bargains around.

I had exactly the same problem following lack of use for a while. However, with a bit of persistence it is now behaving properly. Just forcing it to play bluray discs over and over again seems to have cleaned up the problem.

Yes there was a lot of ejecting and reinserting the discs until out of the blue it would decide to play it. Some discs will be easier than others, so try your whole collection. You my find it will play one of them. If so just play it all the way through and then try a different disc. I found that once it had warmed up it became more cooperative. It was a bit of a pain but it's working great again.

I suspect it simply didn't like being left unused.
