Hello
Now I know this may sound like an odd topic as one is a DVD/HDD recorder and the other is just a DVD player but the issue I have is that the DVD player is my priority as I watch a lot of DVD's but not a lot of TV so the ability to record TV is just a useful bonus.
I am about to upgrade to my first home cinema system (LCD TV, reciever and 5.1 speaker system) and I need a decent upscaling DVD player to make the most of it.
I am seriously considering the Sony RDRHXD970 as the HDD recorder would be useful but not essential (and I don't mind spending the bit extra to have it) so what I really want to know is how the Sony stands up as a DVD player compared to a dedicated DVD player such as the Pioneer DV 600AV or perhaps the Denon DVD1940 which I have also been considering.
If the difference in DVD playback quality between the Sony and Pioneer/Denon is small then I will probably go for the Sony but if the quality of the Pioneer or Denon is much better then the Sony then I am probably going to go with a dedicated DVD player.
Any advice on this would be much appreciated!
The home cinema system I am planning on hooking the DVD player up to will be a Sony KDL323000 (or maybe a KDL40W3000 depending how far I can stretch the budget), an Onkyo TXSR505 (or maybe Sony STRDA1200) and the Jamo A102 HCS5 5.1 speaker package (it is a fairly small room but I have also considered the Wharfedale Diamond 9 5.1 speaker package but it might be a bit much for the size of the room).
Any advice on this setup would also be appreciated!
Thanks for your help
