    Re: Sony RDRHX51DS DVD recorder

Anyone got one of these? I am told that it is supposed to be exclusive to 'Debenhams' (not entirely sure about this - it's just what I have been advised)

It's an 80gb hard drive recorder currently selling in Debenhams (or on their website) for £399.

Just wondered if this was a good deal/or anyone has one?

    Cheers

I cant see any difference between this and the RDR-HX510.

If there are no differences, this is not a good deal as you can get the RDR-HXD710 for the same price.

The '710 is effectively the same machine with the addition of a freeview tuner and a 160Gb hard drive.

    Buy a 710.

It's not as powerful as the Tosh XS32 I sold to buy it but it's overall (IMO) a better machine.

    It also looks nice :)

    CLH,

Why did you sell the Tosh for the Sony?

Just sold my XS34 originaly looking at the Panasonic EH60... editing on all but the Tosh is poor. I wish i could at least add chapters at will with one press of a button ala XS34 or record a play list from HDD to HDD... it seems all this is Tosh only... Why?
I like to record from sky+ overnight at top quality then break the recordings into individual recordings via playlist and re record to HDD at 9.2Mbs for archiving films etc or even drop the quality a bit to take up less space.

On the Panasonic to re record like this would mean writing everything to disc and then back to HDD!

    How does the Sony compare?

Many Thanks and sorry for butting in but I am now at a loss as to what recorder to get!

510 for £280 odd from Pixmania - 710 for £310. P&P around £10 - so much better value than Debenhams.

The Pixmania Machine is RDR-HX710 and the rest are RDR-HXD710 can you spot the difference?

The Pixmania machine does not have a Freeview tuner !!!!!!!! :thumbsdow
