I recently got this dvd recorder and one of the main reason's was because it says it supports pal and ntsc playback. However when i playback any ntsc dvd it comes out in black and white. I went into setup and changed tv system to ntsc but has no affect at all, still B&W.

However when i used a friends pioneer dvd player on same TV it has colour.

    Any ideas?

Most PAL players will play a NTSC disc in "PAL60", which most any PAL TV will play. Sounds like the Sony outputs true NTSC with an NTSC disc, if your TV can't handle NTSC then you get the B&W picture. The Pioneer probably outputs PAL60.
