    No. It plays them but does not record to them. You'll have to wait for the 1010 (and maybe 910) before you get DVD+R DL recording on a Sony!

    Looks like I was mistaken - my info was only as good as what Sony told me. First DVD+R DL recorder is here already then! I might have to pick this model up - I'm due to trial it in a few weeks but I am desperate to see how they deal with recording modes on DVD+R DL discs - Sony models use the maximum capacity on their DVD+/-R(W) discs and, unless they have reduced the bitrate, you will not quite sqeeze 2hrs of HQ footage on a DVD+R DL disc. I'm keen to see how they have addressed this.

    In an update to my last it seems that the recording times for DVD+R DL media is as follows:

    HQ = 1hr 48mins
    HSP = 2hrs 42mins
    SP = 3hrs 37mins

    RDR-HX710/910 have been available in some parts of Europe for some weeks now too. The only difference is larger HDD and DV-in though AFAIK.

    Also some of the new LG models with DVD+R DL support are available in some parts of Europe now. I saw in a different forum that someone had bought the RH-7800H with 160GB HDD, HDMI and DivX support.

    Am I right in thinking Sony DL recordings won't be playable on standard DVD players?

    No, the DL recordings should play on a standard DVD player.

    Does it set the book type to DVD-ROM then? Sony PC DVD drives don't (unless you count the ones sourced from Liteon).

    Sorry, I should have said they should be as compatible as any other +R media.
