Sony RDR - HX510 Region Free Hack

give www.dvdchips.co.uk a go; they list your player and will send you a remote, that will make your player multiregion. I've tried them myself and recommend them. It will cost you 22pounds, I think. E-mail them beforehand and maybe tell them your problem. They will help you.
Regards
Thomas

Makes no difference, the remote uses the exact same codes, in a macro. If it won`t respond to the codes in the first place, then you have an old firmware.

No number of different remotes will manke ANY difference if the firmware has the commands locked out!

Hi guys & girls.

I know this thread is a little older now, but I just thought it best to reiterate for the newer RDR HXD710 & 910 DVD recorders that the PDA method works a treat.

I have MR'd my personal HXD710 in the following way:

.) Turned recorder on
.) Tapped in the codes on my XDA 2s - 'Timer OK' displayed twice, once after each code
.) I physically turned the recorder off
.) Turned it back on
.) Hey presto it played my R1 copy of Robot Chicken :)

Excellent work people - you get a gold star

Try'd the Kameleon 4 one for all remote hack on my Sony RDR-HX510.
Can confirm it works a treat.
Thanks i am now region free.

Do these hacks work for the HX720 model?

I just bought the RDR-GX120. I don't have an OFA remote so I tried the other methods posted here.

The PDA hack wouldn't work for me at all so I tried the PC method listed by MART100.

This worked well but there were a couple of things to look out for:-

1/ Make sure the GX120 remote is set to DVD1 under the System Menu.

2/ When you copy and paste the codes to the remote.txt file make sure you don't have word wrap on. After you do the paste make sure there are no spaces in the lines of numbers.

Once you've done this follow MART100's instructions and you'll have a Multi-region GX120.

As posted elsewhere, you'll need to set the Video output to RGB so that R1 DVD's play in colour.

Thanks to all who've posted on this listing. The information is invaluable.

A huge thank you to goldeneye243!!!

I have just used your guide with the pda and it worked a treat on my dvp-ns76h. I found like you when I tried it in standby it didn't work I had switch it on first and then it worked!!

Thanks Again for the help

No worries - Although I cant really take any credit, I just collated a few bits that I found online!

I am double chuffed. I bought a RDR-HX910, region 3 (live in Thailand). I had trawled everywhere looking for hacks to mutliregion it. However, when trying it out at the shop, I discovered it plays all regions anyway!! Why would Sony enable this in region 3, supposedly the hotbed of dvd piracy?

On top of that, it was the last one in the shop, so was priced at about GB£200 - no box, but all the wires, remote, instructions. Amazing.

I'm a bit disappointed that the high speed hdd to dvd dubbing doesn't work on many options (eg a hdd recording on SP, dubbing to dvd on SLP / EP - takes real time reather than at higher speed), but still a great machine.

I know that I am joining this topic late but I have just bought a faulty HX510 which I have managed to fix, however I was hoping to making it multiregion by following the instructions in this post. Can anyone confirm if the Kameleon hack mentioned in this thread disables RCE??

Any idea why I can't get the code 0533 to work for controlling the sony. I have tried programming it into my Arcam CR80 universal remote just to check whether I can control the Sony and it will not power off the Sony.

It's also possible to unlock this recorder, and indeed most recent sony machines using a laptop with an infra-red port.

I know because I have done it!!

The info below is copied from another source, but please read my notes below that.

1. Download the winsamp -package from Blank Franks site.
This innovative piece of software allows you to send standard home electronics IR signals using a PC IRDA port.
2. Extract the package onto a bootable DOS floppy disk.
3. Save the following code into a file named "REMOTE.TXT" and put it in the same and place it in the same directory as the package above.

"Sony Region Free Code 1",84,24,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,6,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,6,6,12,6,6,117,24,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,6,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,6,6,12,6,6,117

"Sony Region Free Code 4",84,24,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,6,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,6,6,12,6,6,117,24,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,6,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,6,6,12,6,6,117
"Sony Region Free Code 5",84,24,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,6,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,6,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,6,6,12,6,6,118,24,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,6,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,12,6,12,6,12,6,6,6,6,6,12,6,6,6,6,6,12,6,6,118

4. Boot up your PC from the floppy disk and run winsamp.exe.
If your IRDA port doesn't appear as COM2 you may override this by using an appropriate command line switch. For example, use COM1 by running 'winsamp C1'.
5. Press the 'r' key to load up the codes into winsamp.
6. Make sure your DVD player is in standby mode and your IRDA port is within range.
7. Run the IR codes from 1 to 5 by pressing Enter on each corresponding button.
8. Your DVD player should start up and display the text "SUCCESS".
9. Repeat step 7. Your player should return to standby mode.
Your player is now multi-region.

Notes:
1. not all players display 'SUCCESS', some will display 'TIMER OK'
2. it's not essential to extract the winsamp package to a floppy, or to boot the computer in DOS mode if you are using windows 98 or lower. running the program in a DOS shell works fine. I think it may be necessary if using a computer running XP.
3. after unlocking my machine, I was able to successfully play a region 1 DVD. However, because it used the NTSC colour format, pictures appeared black and white on my PAL TV. This was because i was using a composite video connection. Changing the connection to RGB restored full colour (and sharper picture generally).

I hope the above is helpful.

Worked for me doing a RDR-HX525 and my laptop booted from a floppy disk.

Is is possible to do this hack with a Harmony 525/555 ?

Following the extremely helpful posts on this thread, I would like to ask 2 further questions:

1. I have heard that hacking the GX120 results in loss of the use of the original remote (rendering many of the facilities of the recorder useless) - is this true, or has the PC crack overcome this issue?

2. I have lost the code number for the original remote (RMT-D232P) and my wife has just reset the recorder to the factory setting. The remote now no longer works. Is there any way I can get it to work again with some other code or procedure?

Answers to both these questions would be very gratefully received.

Cheers,
Pat

Has anyone had difficulty getting this procedure to work with the RDR-HX525? I just acquired one from the Argos sale but have had no luck with the multi-region hack so far. I'm using an original One-For-All 6 with DVD device code 0533 and have set the player back to DVD1 command mode (the factory default was DVD3).

However, sending the 5 codes to the RDR-HX525 in standby is having no effect, it doesn't power-up or display any messages. Should I try the 1122334455 sequence or perhaps sending the codes whilst the machine is on instead of standby? Is there any way to check for "old" firmware?

Thanks for any help! :)

The help here is AWESOME. Well done all of you who contributed to this hack. I'd like to do this on my Sony RDR-HX910, but I need help with the remote. I've never used a One for All Remote before, and wondered if any of the OFA remotes would be okay? What is this "magic" button you all refer to? Do all OFA remotes have it?

Sorry if these questions seem elementary - this is my first day in DVD Hack school.

I guess the warranty of my new player will be void after completing the hack.

In case I need to restore the original settings, I assume it can be done using same procedure if I just knew the five needed codes (3 or 5 digits each depending the OFA).

Does anyone know these?

Guys,

Just an update as to the hack's suitability for later players....

I have just bought the RDR-HXD870 Hard Disk/DVD/Freeview recorder and successfully used the Pronto CCF hack on my previous player so thought I would give it a go.

The CCF file hack still works but this time I had to do the following: -

Start with player ON but no disc in drive.

Use the CCF and press the buttons 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in order and the message TIMER ON appears on the display.

I then turned off and on again and did the buttons on the CCF again and same TIMER ON message appeared and player turned off (I think).

Grab a R1 DVD and try it. Seems to work for me - R1 Bedazzled is now playing. Will try some other titles too but Bedazzled definitely gave a Prohibited message before the hack.

So Sony's firmware doesn't appear to have changed that much over the last couple of years!

Enjoy.....

Thanks to all of you guys in this forum

Used Kameleon 3 in 1 (One for All – Kameleon – URC-8203)
to hack the SONY DVP-NS52P for Multiregion playback. :D

First prepare the remote:
1. select dvd device on remote (dvd icon)
2. hold magic button (for 3 sec.) until rabbit comes out of the hat
3. enter device code 0533

Now program buttons 1-5 with the following codes:
1 - 00189
2 - 00255
3 - 00095
4 - 00221
5 - 00079

To program keys with this remote do the following:
1. hold magic button device key blinks twice
2. press 994
3. press magic button
4. enter 5 digit code from above (ex: 00189)
5. press button (1..5) where to program it

Repeat steps 1 to 5 for all (five) keys.

After this just apply the hack:
1. remove disk, put player on standby
2. press 1,2,3,4,5 - SUCCESS is displayed
3. press 1,2,3,4,5 (again) - SUCCESS is displayed again! Put player on standby

 Thats it! It works! Now it plays R1, R2 and R3 disks (I don’t own other regions disks).

;-)

Thanks to all the people that Magaman thanked and thanks to him - two and a bit years later!!

I've just freed my Sony DVP-NS50P using Magaman's hack, influenced by folk over at DVD Reviewer and with a OneForAll "Prime Line" 4 (URC-7740) universal remote.

There are a few minor - all important - changes:-

First prepare the remote:
1. select dvd device on remote (dvd icon)
2. hold magic button until red light blinks twice
3. enter device code 0533

Now program buttons 1-5 with the following codes:
1 - 00189
2 - 00255
3 - 00095
4 - 00221
5 - 00079

To program keys with this remote do the following:
1. hold magic button device key blinks twice
2. press 994 - red light blinks twice
3. press magic button
4. enter 5 digit code from above (ex: 00189)
5. press button (1..5) where to program it
6. red light blinks twice (repeat from 1. if it doesn't)

Repeat steps 1 to 5 for all (five) keys.

After this just apply the hack:
1. remove disk, leave player on
2. press 1,2,3,4,5 - player switches off
3. press 1,2,3,4,5 (again) - SUCCESS is displayed! Switch player off.

All other hacks seem to say either 00994 and five digit codes as 00189 OR 994 and three digit codes. I was so convinced it was either or that I didn't think to try a combination!!

Hoping this clarifies it for someone........

Carl

I hope this is ok as its an old thread but I just got a NS305 player and got a generic multi brand remote that has device codes for dvd players pre installed so I selected Sony and the remote works, but if I press the number keys it just tells me keys cant be used at the moment or something and I dont get "code" on the screen.

I only have a few imported anime boxsets to play and have a plasma in my bedroom but want to use this for living room for when friends come round.

I have a laptop with infra red port so is there any chance to use it with this.
