Sony RDR-GX300 Cooling Fan

    :lease: The cooling fan on my Sony RDR-GX300 starts about 20 seconds after the unit is powered on; it then continues to run until the unit is powered off.

    I find the noise annoying when recording or watching a playback.

    A friend of mine says the fan on his unit appears to be thermostatically controlled, as it is not always running.

    Can anyone tell me which is correct?

    The fan on mine comes on occasionally, runs for twenty seconds then cuts out. It is very noisy though.
