I have the Sony RDR-GX3 DVD Recorder. So far I have had no problems recording on +RW or -RW. But when I try to record a -R the machine will pause the recording almost exactly 50 seconds in and then tell me that the disk is dirty. I created a ton of coasters like this. I'm not sure if this is a hardware problem or a media compatibility issue. I have been using DATAWRITE "Red" (V2) x4 General Perpose DVD-R manufactured by Datasafe Media.

    Any ideas?

Please help. Other forums on other sites have been hopeless!:(

I can only speak from experience of 1 week with this machine, but I have used Memorex DVD-R's and so far out of the 3 I have used I have had no problems.
I got 20 from the local comp fair for just £10 last month to use in my laptop before I got the DVD recorder but they work in the Sony equally well.
The part number on the pack is 854114-10H,pack of 10 1X-4X.
I mainly use -RW's myself as I dont tend to keep much stuff I record.

I've had no issues at all with either Ritek 04 orange (purple dye) or Maxell.

    Thanks!

Where did you get your Riteq G04 Orange (Purple dye) discs? My usual supplier doesn't stock them.

    Many Thanks.

I've found Datasafe -R to be fine (www.svp.co.uk) but Ritek Arita -RW created 9 coasters from 10!!
What -RWs are you using that work? Where from?
    Thanks

Not cheap cheap but I got two -RW's from Partners stationery the other day for £4.99,it was on a buy one get one free offer.
They were Imation ones,I had used their CD-RW's and had no problem with those so was willing to take a chance,as it turms out they work fine.
So far I have used TDK -RW's that came form PCWorld at 3 for £15 (ouch),Maxell -R's that I got from a comp fair for 20 for £10 and now these Imations ones and they all work fine.

Hi, just had the RDRGX3 for a week now.
Had some initial problems connecting it up
but I think I'm nearly there now !
The shop gave me a Sony +RW with it (wow!)
That works fine, I bought a box of ten
Packhard Bell +RW's from PC World for £18.00
I get a C1300 message up but it records without
problem, I wanted to try a -RW and managed to
get a Jessops own brand for £2.00, the machine
    won't even recognise it !
Have any of you connected to a Sky Box yet
and managed to use the " Personal Planner "
to fire up the recorder I wonder ?

Play.com has memorex 25 packs of DVD-R or DVD+R for £17.99 inc. delivery. Never had any problems with Ritek orange from big pockets either.

    So far :

    Sony DVD +RW
    Ok on RDRGX3
    No go on Wharfdale 750S

    Packhard Bell DVD +RW
    Ok on RDRGX3
    No go on Wharfdale 750S

    Jessops DVD-RW
    No go on RDRGX3
    No go on Wharfdale 750S

    Memorex DVD-RW
    Records ok in Video mode
Plays ok on the Wharfdale 750S

So, Memorex it is then !

C1300 dirty disk error comes up for all
non Sony media, maybe this is in the
firmware to try and ensure you use
    Sony media perhaps ?

I'm starting to get to grips with this machine
now, just the EPG planner on the Sky Box
I need to sort and I'll be well happy !
Best of it is, I've had it working once !

    Regards de Wessy

    I have no problems with

    Datasafe +RW
    TDK +RW
    Ritek GO4-R
    Maxell -RW

Never used a Sony disc yet.

All of the above play in my Toshiba SD330 save for the -RW's.
