    Hello Ian Ball

Did the reviewer mention that one of the 'little' quirks of the 006 is it CANT accept a 1080P signal!!!

    Best regards

I was lucky enough to see one of these in New York in January. Possibly the best rear-projection HD picture I have ever seen - though it was being viewed in very controlled conditions.

I was watching satellite delivered HD film material - and it looked cracking...

The important difference between the Qualia projector and the other Sony LCDs is that the projection technology is very different.

The Qualia uses 3 reflective LCD arrays (aka SXRD), where light is bounced off the surface of the LCD panels (one for each colour component) - a bit like DLP - rather than passing through the LCD.

Because the system is reflective not transmissive, the black level performance is improved to DLP levels, and the screen-door/chicken-wire effect (caused by gaps between transmissive bits - and the small drive circuit required for each transmissive TFT pixel) is almost removed. However because 3 panels, rather than a single panel, are used there are no rainbow artefacts caused by a colour wheel.

Sony also market regular 3 x transmissive LCD displays still - as they are currently still cheaper.

    Wouldn't mind a 50" Qualia for £4,000.

Question is should I risk the £2,000 put aside for the now dead duck philips 32pf9830

on an even money chance at the bookies ........ sweating already ..........

    better not !!!!!!!

Yeah, better not seeing as the FA Community Shield can throw up upsets akin to Arsenal vs Liverpool.
