I originally posted on the Classifieds Gaming Forum a month ago a Sony PSP I was selling. Since then its generated a bit of a discussion. Ive tried to keep up with it and have created a list on my PSP site in the Buyer's Guide Section.

    www.ballofodd.co.uk/psp/

Please have a look and let me know what you think.

(I will be doing another major update when i get my new motherboard on Wednesday as well as changing the video downloads section - for those who already have a PSP.)

    Thanks,

    dr_loss (BallofOdd)

My mate told me ( ) that apparently Sony are going to drop the price to £100 soon after release to compete directly with the Nintendo DS.

site is all backup, complete with a load of updates, taken me a while so please have a look.

the japanese release price was appoximately £106 for the basic pack and from what i know this is what it would cost you know.

this reflects the strength of the pound over the dollar and yen rather than much else, although it is obviously a bargain price anywhere. Dont expect it to be launched in the UK or US at that price (and that is only the value pack).

That would be a risky move they are meant to be losing money at the current price but at £100 hmm

In Japan the PSP sales are picking up BUT not a single PSP game in the top 10 charts which is where sony is hoping to get the money back from, would be a big blow if people was buying for the Multimedia possibilities and not buying many if any games

just over £100 for the basic pack is the current price!

sony definitely arent making any money. I heard of a $250 loss on each unit pre-launch but you never can tell as so many components are made in house. There is no chance that they will be selling for that much in UK stores, welcome to rip off britain.

sony will make loads on the games and loads on the UMDs, at $25 a movie they cant lose. Unless people refuse to pay....

I cannot see Sony dropping the PSP to £100 just after launch, if people want the machine they will buy it and they would lose a fortune if they start knocking them out at £100 even though they might sell more I cannot see it happening.

The PSP has more multimedia capabilities than the DS, I can see more gamers wanting the DS as it is a console mainly and the PSP has the edge with its multimedia cababilities so it can aim at people that want abit more out of their computer

I will only buy UMD movie as long as they are no more than £10 each

Its £102 over at DVDSoon with the fidelity card.

I never ordered from them and am worried about getting stung on customs.

I nearly ALWAYS get stung for customs m8, but even taking that into account using the fidelity 20% off, it`s not a bad price me thinks.

lets hope the one at dvdsoon is the value pack version though and not just the basic psp unit.

The "K" at the end of the product code should suggest it`s the value pack m8.

If it's a given that you're going to be charged import tax on an item like a PSP, is there any advantage to informing the custums and excise people in advance. Perhaps even paying it in advance. Then the mail company doesn't have to pay on your nehalf and shouldn't charge you in theory. Well, my theory anyway. Anyone know?

I can't seem to find an area for PSP or DS games. I've always hated the dvdsoon layout. It's hardly intuitive. Unless you know what you're looking for it's a real pain to browse the site. Compare their site to www.play.com. Simplicity at it's best and how all sites should be.

Yeah, the current japanese psp's that is been imported at the moment all have Sharp screens and have been manufactured in Japan, the samsung screens are believed to be of inferior quality and the psp's manufactured in China. On the upside, it looks like the Us and european versions will have built in memory.

From what I heard it was only the first batch of PSP's that where made in hong kong that used sharp screens then to reduce production costs sony moved production to china and used samsung screens on all PSP's after that.

The sharp screens are suppose to be a brighter screen and a better one

Son't know how accurate this is as I was told by someone who brought my psp back from Hong Kong with them

    mfg in hong kong?

are there any hi-tech factories in hong kong?

more like szen-zhen or somewhere across the border. Ill check out what facilities sharp have in that area...

think the production has probably always been in china, where else to mfg these days?

I wouldn't stress if it wasn't the value pack. It is pretty worthless.

A 32MB memory card is not much use, the soft case wouldn't protect your PSP very well and the headphones are poor (and for some reason white!). The 3 items don't merit the price difference when you look at the Japanese prices.

Still the PSP is a gob smacking bit of kit for the money. Sony must be taking a kicking on the hardware.

    Cheers
    Marc

this is the real problem with ebay these days just look how many psp auctions are spam. Its a minefield thats only gonna get worse when english kids find out about psp and start throwing their money away. Also pisses me off people paying for image convertor and english manuals and other downloads - im happy to give them free, profiteering gluttons! (rant over)

I posted one of my original pair on their back in december (do i get respect for being a dual first batcher? - probably not) and one of these monkeys, im sure bid up the price to something ridiculous and then dissappeared on me claiming the account had been hacked. Im wary of ebay PSPs - to be honest youre gonna love it pay an extra 20gbp and buy from someone decent

just finished an update to my original buyers guide allowing people to post comments on the retailers. Im hoping this will let people rant about the bad ones and rave about the good ones so that newbies are better informed.

please make a post for where you brought from and let others know what you think

    thanks

Sorry my bad. Its the value pack as this is all they are releasing in North America at this stage. Also price is as low as £104 delivered for members with voucher.
