Sony PS3 & KDL40V3000 trying to get full 1080p

Can anyone help or explain :lease:.

I have a PS3 connected via component to a Full 1080p sony TV. When I start the PS3 the menu is in full 1080p.

Now I have tried two bluray movies and a game. When the movie starts in the right corner of the TV it shows 480i for the second movie it showed 720p and for the game it was 520i.

Now my understanding was the all bluray movies are 1080p and most game run at 720p.

It has really confused me that all three medias ran at a different output and I can not workout why especially when the boxes state clear 1080p for the movies and 720p for the games

Is it because I am using a component cable instead of an HDMI or is there a setting within the TV or PS3 that needs to be set (And I have looked everywhere)

Hi Blyth_man :)
I'm quite sure it's because your using component but i'll leave it for someone else with more savvy to answer. :)

You need to connect via HDMI due to HDCP (copyright).

OK so it is down to not running HDMI and that is why I was getting different outputs. I had heard that the films had a copyright and that is why HDMI was need but is it the same for PS3 games?.

PS3 games are not copyright protected, re HDCP, so component should work fine at native resolution: 720p or 1080p.

Sorry for bouncing this round, but this is what threw me, like you said I thought the games should run at 720p, when I inserted a game (motorstorm) in the right hand corner of the TV when the game was loading it converted to 520i which made me think the game is not running at 720p but 520i. Not sure if you have seen this happen or had similar?

Thanks :D

Motorstorm should run at 720p. Try switching off 1080i and 1080p in the settings to see if this resolves the 520i issue. Howver, once you connect the HDMI all should be ok.
